About Vastu and what it covers

What is Vastu Shastra?

Vastu Shastra is a traditional Indian system of architecture and spatial planning, described in classical texts. It relates the orientation of a building and the arrangement of its rooms to the cardinal directions. A Vastu consultation applies those traditional principles to a specific plot, home or business space.

Is Vastu scientifically proven?

Vastu is a traditional discipline, not an empirical science, and claims of guaranteed outcomes are not established by scientific evidence. Some conventions overlap with sound design, such as daylight, ventilation and the sun's path. Vaastya offers guidance within the traditional framework and does not promise financial, health or business results.

Does a Vastu consultation replace an architect, engineer or lawyer?

No. Vastu guidance works alongside licensed professionals. Title and approvals need a property lawyer, structural and fire safety need a licensed engineer or architect, and building rules always apply. A consultation helps you ask the right questions of each.

What is the difference between general Vastu advice and a property-specific review?

General advice describes conventions that apply broadly, such as where a kitchen is traditionally placed. A property-specific review reads your actual plan, plot or premises, so it can say what applies to your layout, what matters most and what can be left alone.

Is Vastu the same as astrology?

No. Vastu Shastra is a traditional system for buildings and spaces: orientation, layout and the placement of rooms. Astrology (Jyotish) is a separate tradition that reads birth charts and timing. The two are often mentioned together in India, which is why people search for both, but they answer different questions.

What else is Vastu called, and how does it relate to Feng Shui?

You will see Vastu spelled Vaastu, Vasthu and Vastu Shastra, and it is also called Vastu Vidya or Sthapatya Veda in classical sources. Feng Shui is a separate Chinese tradition with a similar aim of arranging spaces by direction, and it is sometimes described as a comparable system. They have different methods and vocabulary.

Booking and process

When is the best time to consult before buying a home?

After you have shortlisted options and before you pay a booking amount or register. At that stage you can still compare properties or raise questions with the seller. A review is also useful before construction and before moving in.

Can a floor plan be reviewed before construction?

Yes, and this is the least costly time to review it. Share the architect's draft plan with dimensions and a north marker. Observations are marked against the plan so changes can be made on paper before anything is built.

What documents should I share for an apartment or plot review?

For a flat: the unit floor plan, the project master plan, unit number and floor, and the direction of the main door. For a plot: the site or layout plan with dimensions, the location pin, road widths and photographs. Share only what is needed to review the layout.

Is an online consultation enough, or is a site visit needed?

Many reviews are done online from plans, photographs and a video call. A site visit adds value for plots, villas and larger purchases where slope, surroundings and access matter. Visits depend on location and scheduling, so mention your city when you enquire.

Can I consult for a property in a different city?

Yes. Online reviews do not depend on where you live or where the property is. If a site visit would help, we will tell you and discuss whether it can be arranged for your location.

Changes, cost and privacy

Does a Vastu consultation always involve renovation or demolition?

No. Observations are first addressed through room use, furniture, storage and small adjustments. Construction changes are suggested only where they are practical, and they are marked as optional so you can decide with your architect.

Can a flat be Vastu compliant?

Flats vary in how closely they follow traditional layouts, and the structure and entrance are fixed by the builder. A review shows how a particular unit reads, which units fit better if you are still choosing, and what can be arranged inside the flat.

What affects the consultation fee?

The type and size of the property, whether it is a single review or a comparison of several options, whether it is online or on-site, and travel where a visit is needed. Share your property type and city when you enquire.

How are my plans and property details handled?

Plans and personal details are used to prepare your consultation. Share only what is needed, and read the privacy policy for how information is stored and how to ask for it to be deleted. Do not send identity documents or financial details.
