Bedroom Vastu: master bedroom position and bed placement

Where traditional Vastu places the master bedroom, and how bed and furniture placement are read.

Updated · 4 min read

In traditional Vastu the master bedroom is commonly placed in the south-west of the plan, and the position of the bed and its head is also considered. Children's and guest rooms are read differently from the master room.

The traditional convention

The south-west is associated with stability in traditional texts, which is why the master bedroom is placed there. Bed placement conventions, such as the direction of the head, are widely cited but vary between sources.

Why a plan-specific review matters

Traditions and consultants differ in detail, and a real home rarely matches a textbook layout. The useful question is how your plan sits, which observations matter most and what can be adjusted without construction.

What a consultant checks

  • Where each bedroom sits in the plan
  • Position of the bed relative to the door and windows
  • Placement of wardrobes, mirrors and the attached bathroom
  • Which rooms could be swapped in use
  • Non-structural changes for rooms that cannot move

Limits

A room's position is one input among many. It does not replace structural, safety or legal checks, and it does not promise any outcome. Where moving a room is impractical, a review looks at use, furniture and smaller adjustments first.
