A Vastu review of an existing home does not have to mean demolition. Observations can often be addressed through room use, furniture, storage and small adjustments. Construction changes are worth considering only when they are practical, affordable and clearly worthwhile.
Non-structural options
- Changing which room is used for which purpose
- Moving furniture, beds, desks and storage
- Changing the position of fittings or appliances that can be relocated easily
- Decluttering the central areas of the home
- Using doors, partitions and screens that do not alter the structure
When a structural change may be considered
- The home is being renovated anyway, and the change adds little cost
- The observation is a high priority and cannot be addressed otherwise
- A plan change is possible within approved limits and society rules
What to avoid
Avoid structural work that is not supported by an engineer, or that affects load-bearing walls, plumbing stacks or fire exits. In flats, check society rules and the sanctioned plan before any change. A consultant who recommends demolition without checking these is not serving you.
Sequence the work
- Get the review before the scope of work is finalised.
- Fix the high-priority items in the renovation plan.
- Handle room use and furniture after the work is done.
- Leave minor items for later, or leave them alone.
